Whether you call them, customers, clients, patrons, patients, whatever, the sole purpose of any organization is to attract and retain other individuals, or in the case of B2B sales, other businesses, that need and can benefit from your services. I’ve done a good bit of research on the subject of customer retention and loyalty and depending on what you read, it can cost as much as 5-10 times more to attract new customers than to retain your existing customers. So, it’s curious to me that sometimes leaders and their employees are not as focused on the customers as they can be. That’s why this month’s issue of Leveling Up is all about the importance of customer satisfaction.
For most of our client organizations, communication comes up as one of the greatest challenges they deal with on a day to day basis. With this in mind, this month we focus on some of the many personal issues that interfere with our ability to be good listeners and how with just one question, we can bring clarity to any conversation.
Attitude ... it’s the foundation of success in business, relationships and life. Let’s face it, nobody wants to hang out with people who have a bad attitude. Unfortunately, people often think that attitude is something we can’t change. So, this month’s newsletter is all about attitude adjustment.
Communication, it’s the foundation of all relationships and it’s surprising how often mis-communication occurs, how often people have trouble being transparent, authentic and REAL. This month we focus on six key steps to effective communication followed by an overview of five tips for being REAL in all your relationships. If you follow these guidelines, you’ll be amazed at the impact you’ll have.
What are your New Year’s Resolutions? If you haven’t already done so, now is an excellent time to review your company’s year-end results and plan for the coming year. There are three simple steps to follow when making your resolutions, though we prefer you call them goals!:
Step 1 - Learn whatever you can from last year’s results;
Step 2 - Set targets which will excite you and your team;
Step 3 - Figure out how to reach the targets in Step 2.
The approach to some targets will be simple, others more complex. While there are no guarantees of success, each target should have an identifiable path with a good probability of getting your company where you want it to be.
Have you accomplished what you set out to accomplish in 2012? If not, perhaps you or your employees lacked clarity on your purpose and vision? Or, maybe the activities occurring throughout your organization were not in line with your business strategy? In the words of Oprah Winfrey, “It’s all about dreams. If I had to attribute my success in life to any one thing, it is this: I believed in my dreams even when no one else did.” As you approach the hustle and business of the holiday season, we hope you will take some time to define your dreams, to clarify your purpose and vision and be sure you have a strategy in place to make it all come true.
With the New Year rapidly approaching, we encourage you to control your own destiny by creating an effective plan, making sure you have the right people doing the right things at the right time for the right reasons and constantly evaluating your processes to be sure they are both employee and customer friendly.
A key component of effective planning is business goal setting and follow-through so we wrap up this month’s newsletter with an overview of the keys to effective goal setting.
